Tome V : New Safety Standard for Pedestrian Speed Displays (Quebec only)
Last December, the Ministère des Transports du Québec issued a new standard concerning speed display signs to standardize signage and make it easier to understand, thereby increasing road safety.
The safety of all road users is at the core of Kalitec's values and motivates the creation of our innovative solutions. We are therefore very proud to announce that our two models of speed display signs (speed radar signs) comply with this new standard.
What does the standard entail?
Speed display signs must comply with one of the two display types:
- A display matrix only in black.
- A display matrix in black and a sheet metal panel with a yellow retroreflective film.

The speed display sign must show a dynamic message and a static message:
- Static message: It must read YOUR SPEED, either on one line or two lines, directly above the vehicle's speed. It is important that this inscription be visible at all times, and white or amber colors must be used on a display matrix, while black must be selected on a yellow sheet metal panel.
- Dynamic messages: There are a few important points to note here.
From now on, the only possible feedback messages are THANK YOU when the speed is equal to or below the prescribed speed limit, and SLOW DOWN when it is above. It must not be accompanied by any symbol or pictogram and must be displayed during the same speed display phase; the use of a second display phase is not permitted.
It must also be the same color as the displayed vehicle speed or amber or white, and displayed on the same line below it.
If you choose to display the vehicle speed in a color other than white or amber, it must be green when the vehicle speed is equal to or below the limit and red when it is above.
Please also note the display threshold table that helps prevent speeding:

To comply, the dynamic message and vehicle speed display must not flash, and there should be no flashing lights or strobe effects on the radar.
The Kalitec Promise!
Not only are our two models of speed display signs compliant, but they are also the most efficient in their category and contribute concretely to speed reduction from their first days of implementation.
