In 2022, the City of St. John's, the colorful and historic capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, undertook a complete overhaul of its outdoor signage system across its territory. The objective: to modernize displays, improve user orientation, and provide consistent, effective signage suitable for both motorists and pedestrians.

The municipal call for tenders focused on the supply of outdoor signs designed to guide urban movement, in a context where legibility and durability were essential. Signalisation Kalitec was selected to ensure the design and manufacturing of the signs, in close collaboration with a local contractor responsible for installation.

Custom production, adapted for all users

In total, over sixty signs of various formats and sizes were manufactured. The signage system was designed to meet distinct needs:

• motorists, with signs visible from a distance and adapted to traffic
• pedestrians, with clear, accessible, and easy-to-read signage at human scale

Signalisation Kalitec ensured the technical design and manufacturing of the aluminum signs, based on the graphic visual provided by the City. Each piece was developed with care to faithfully respect the municipal visual identity, while meeting the technical requirements related to the outdoor environment and the specific climatic conditions of the region.

Collaboration and on-site efficiency

The project's success was based on close coordination between Kalitec's teams and the local partner, ensuring efficient installation and compliance with municipal standards. This collaborative approach allowed deadlines to be met and ensured a smooth integration of the signs into the urban environment.

Thanks to this overhaul, the City of St. John's now benefits from a harmonized, functional, and durable signage system, which improves the travel experience while contributing to the city's neat and welcoming image.
